Blåbär is a Nordic café, design store & deli in Putney, South West London. Our aim is to encourage people to ‘live a life more Nordic’ and to give them a complete experience of being in Scandinavia when they step through the door. Our café serves great coffee, fika & food; our shop showcases homeware, gifts & accessories from new Nordic designers; and our deli has a range of Scandi treats – all in a contemporary inviting space.

The Role
We’re looking for a hands-on Supervisor to help run the café floor and lead our small, dedicated team. Having been a fixture in Putney for 10 years, we have a loyal community of regulars and we take a lot of pride in the quality of our service. We need someone who leads by example and understands what it takes to keep those standards high.

This is a busy, varied role where you’ll be the "go-to" person on shift, making sure everything from the coffee quality to the shop display is spot on. We operate with a flat hierarchy, so you’ll be working closely with the owners and the team in a collaborative, supportive environment.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

·       Leading the Floor: Taking charge of the daily flow, from opening up in the morning to making sure the space stays tidy and welcoming all day.

·       Coffee & Food: Serve high-quality specialty coffee and fika with focus on presentation, and manage efficient food preparation during peak periods.

·       Supporting the Team: Helping our staff stay organized and proactive, making sure everyone knows their tasks and feels supported.

·       Customer Service: Building genuine relationships with our local regulars and ensuring every visitor feels the friendly hospitality we are known for.

·       Inventory & Maintenance: Checking stock levels, handling daily operations, and generally "rolling up your sleeves" to help wherever is needed ensuring all areas remain organized and well-presented.

·       Retail Support: Providing assistance in the design store as needed, advising customers on our homeware and deli.

About You

·      Experience: You’ll need experience in a fast-paced café or specialty coffee shop.

·      Leadership Skills: Previous experience in a supervisory or senior role is preferred

·      Barista Proficiency: Ability to work confidently on a professional espresso machine (barista experience is a significant advantage).

·      Calm & Proactive: You’re someone who stays level-headed when it’s busy and is always looking for ways to make things run smoother.

·      A People Person: You genuinely enjoy customer service and have a positive, energetic approach to work.

·      Reliable: You’re looking for a stable, full-time role and are happy to commit to weekend shifts.

·      Nordic Interest: A little knowledge of, or interest in, Nordic culture and design is always a plus.

·      Flexibility: Must be available to work weekends and commit to a consistent 35–40 hour weekly schedule.

What We Offer

·       Environment: An enjoyable, open, and friendly workplace as part of a passionate, independent team.

·      Staff Perks: Free lunch and specialty drinks on shift, plus a staff discount in the café and shop.

·      Benefits: Access to a company pension scheme.

Right to Work: All applicants must have the legal right to work in the UK.
